About Shelton Ridge Love

Shelton Ridge Love grew up in a musical family. His love for music began by watching his mother play the organ at their home church. It was not long before Shelton became actively involved in music in the community. Since that time, he has served as pianist, organist, and director of music in several churches in Kansas City, MO and Upstate South Carolina.

Shelton earned his undergraduate degree in Organ Performance from Bob Jones University studying with Dr. Ed Dunbar. His composition instructors include Dan Forrest, Joan Pinkston, and Seth Custer.

In the fall of 2019, Shelton accepted the position of artistic director for the Greenville Gay Men’s Chorus. Since that time, the chorus has grown from eight to thirty-five singers, survived the pandemic, produced multiple concerts each year, and undergone a major rebranding. Under his direction, the chorus performed with the San Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus at the Peace Center in Greenville, SC and Davies Symphony Hall in San Francisco, CA. In 2023, they joined the Midlands Men’s Chorus and the Gamecock Chorale of USC for three performances of the major work When We No Longer Touch in Columbia, SC and Greenville, SC. Most recently, the chorus was joined by Greenville Chamber Singers to present Sing for the Cure, a major work celebrating survivors and honoring those lost to breast cancer.

Shelton currently resides in Greenville, SC, where he is an active member in the Greenville chapter of the American Guild of Organists, and regularly plays for local churches. He has choral and keyboard works published by Beckenhorst Press, Hal Leonard, the Lorenz Company, and Oxford University Press. View those works on the Compositions page.

In 2014, Shelton began branding his compositions under the label Love Notes and later incorporated the label to include all of his personal work: composition, performance, and instruction.
